Happy Holidays

Feliz Navidad to All and may the New Year bring you Health, Happiness and Prosperity.

Come and visit me at Silkmari.etsy.com

I just started presenting my work there. Once I return from my vacation, I will be more active and will hopefully be adding work on a regular basis...so please come back and check to see what is new.

Finally, I'm back

Hopefully I am here to stay ...now that I have gotten myself back on the road. New situations in my life kind of rearranged my priorities, my time and most of all my good intentions of keeping this blog current. Many times I wanted to post but somehow just could not. Now finally it is all behind me and I am ready to share with you my work and any other interesting things that my come up in my life.

I will be taking a most needed vacation soon to the US where I have not gone back to visit since right after 9/11. That year, in December, I had a planned trip to NYC and the night before I was to leave ... the airline that I was to travel with called to cancel the trip because of a snowstorm there....they gave me the option to travel the next day but I just canceled the trip altogether and since then I have not traveled out of the country....so this is a very big deal for me. I look forward to sharing with you my experiences and will be more consistant with my posts.

Happy Holidays and a most Prosporous New Year to all.

Carvings on Stone

Ave de Utuado - Bird from Utuado

This is only one of the many petroglyphs carved by the Taino Indians of Puerto Rico. I will be introducing the ones that I use in my work and also the ones that are popular. I have some from Utuado, Jayuya, Anasco, and Caguas.

You can find valuable information regarding Puerto Rican Petroglyphs in the books by Nelson Rafael Collazo.

The Present and the Past

I had to show you this photo that I took as I was waiting at a traffic light. The horses were tied up on the iron fence reminiscent of not so long ago. On the other side of the fence is what I would call a ...Rodeo... with activities that draw big crowds on the weekends. It is actually very common to see horses on the country roads here in Puerto Rico.

Hand Painted *** Silk Painting

This is a sampling of hand Batik Silk scarves that I have created in the past. Although they have been sold, the scarves with the Petroglyph designs may be duplicated somewhat as they are of actual..carvings..or line drawings on rocks, done by the Taino Indians of Puerto Rico. The scarves have two very popular designs, one of the..Coqui Taino.. and the other of the..Sol de Jayuya.

Be on the lookout for my most resent Collection of Silk scarves...spent the day taking photos and putting some slide shows together...that was a lengthy process but it was all worth it ...
